The Pleading Child

Kids! Have you ever asked your parents for something again and again? Robert Schumann’s Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood) contains a piece entitled Pleading Child, where the melody repeats itself just like a pleading child. And you won’t know if the wish was granted until the next movement. This was an illustration for The Chicago Symphony’s Ravinia Festivals. I felt that the rain in the background was a perfect metaphor.
