Not a city in Southern Missouri, Beringia was a great land bridge (thousands of years ago) that connected Western Alaska and Siberia. Most scientists agree that this dry area of land could have allowed early humans to follow migrating herds of animals form Asia to North America, thereby becoming the first Americans. Many years later the sea levels would rise, effectively shutting down traffic on the land bridge and isolating Americans (who would go on to invent the game of basketball). But this is only one theory as to how people came to be in the Americas. Do you have a theory of your own? Would you have invented basketball? 🙂 (Excerpted from Kids Discover Geography.)
Where in the World is (was) Beringia?
